Hello Crafty friends!

Featuring Spellbinders’ new July release—the Christmas Cats Collection designed by Yana Smakula—I’ve created several fun, interactive cards. The collection includes a variety of dies that let you creatively bring to life story-driven scenes, such as mischievous cats, Christmas-themed accessories, and window-themed dies.

By combining festive Christmas decorations, cozy windowsills, and curious, mischievous cats with pop-up and interactive elements, I’ve created playful, lively, and unique cards. A list of the products used is provided below.

クラフト好きの皆さん！こんにちは！

Spellbinders 7月の新商品！ヤナ・スマクラさんデザインのクリスマスキャッツコレクションにフィーチャーして、楽しいインタラクティブなカードをいくつか作りました。いたずらな猫たちやクリスマスにまつわるアクセサリー、窓辺のダイなど、ストーリー性のある様々なシーンをクリエイティブに表現できるダイが揃っています。

華やかなクリスマスの装飾や、居心地の良い窓辺で繰り広げる、好奇心旺盛でいたずら好きの猫たちとポップアップやインタラクティブな仕掛けを組み合わせることによって、遊び心あふれる生き生きとした個性的なカードができました。まだ７月でこれから夏なのに、もう冬のクリスマスカード？と思われると思います。私もそう思いました。しかし南半球では７月がクリスマスということと、早めにゲットしてクリスマスカード作っておきたい方には最適です。

In this pop-up card, where cats pop out when you open it, one of the cats knocks over an ornament, which lands on the head of the spotted kitten below, startling her. We incorporated this fun little story into the design.

開くと猫たちが飛び出すポップアップカードでは、飛び出した猫がオーナメントを落としてしまって、下にいるぶち猫ちゃんの頭の上に乗っかり驚いています。そんな楽しいストーリーを組み込みました。

To create the pop-up mechanism, I made V-shaped folds at the top and bottom of the card’s base, glued paper to those folds, and then attached the cats on top.

飛び出す仕掛けは、土台の紙の高さの部分の上下にVの字に折り目を作り、そこに紙を貼って、その上に猫たちを貼ってます。

Christmas Cats 2とChristmas Cats 3

The card featuring a cat playing tricks on top of an ornament and the card where the Christmas tree looks like it’s about to fall over both use the same mechanism. It’s not a mechanism that swings naturally; instead, it uses a pull tab to make it swing, allowing you to move it freely—such as in time with the music—which makes it a fun feature.

オーナメントの上に乗りいたずらしている猫ちゃんのカードとクリスマスツリーが倒れそうなカードは同じ仕掛けを使ってます。スイングする仕掛けではなくて、プルタブを使って音楽に合わせたりする自由に動かすことができる楽しい仕掛けです。

These are simple mechanisms that use rivets. Punch a hole in the card base, then prepare a circle slightly larger than that hole. Mark the center of the circle with a pen, place it under the hole in the card, and trace the outline of the circle.

リベットを使った簡単な仕掛けです。カードベースに穴を、その穴より少し大きい丸を用意します。中心にペンで印をつけ、カードの穴の下に置き、丸の線を描きます。

Make cuts in the order of top, bottom, left, and right, all the way to the inner circle. This is a rivet.

内側の丸の線まで上下左右に切り込みを入れます。これがリベットです。

Thread only the top and bottom parts of the rivet through the holes in the base paper.

ベースの紙の穴にリベットの上下の部分だけ通します。

Let's make a pull tab.

Cut two strips of paper for the pull tabs, and punch a hole in the end of each one.

プルタブを作ります。

2枚のプルタブ用の細い紙に穴をあけます。

Make the rivets in the same way as above.

上と同様にリベットを作ります。

Align the two holes and thread the rivet through them.

Stick a round piece of paper over the rivet to keep it from coming loose.

二枚の穴を合わせて、その穴からリベットを通します。

リベットが外れないように、紙の丸を貼ります。

Turn the base card face down, and attach the first rivet to the end of the pull tab.

ベースカードを裏にして、最初に取り付けたリベットをプルタブの端に貼ります。

Turn the piece right side up and attach the hanging loop for the ornament to the rivet. In *Christmas Cats 3*, a hole is made near the bottom of the tree and a rivet is attached there.　Wrap the band around the pull tab to secure it.

表にしてリベットにオーナメントの吊り下げ部分を貼ります。Christmas Cats 3ではツリー下のほうに穴を作りリベットを取り付けています。プルタブはバンドを巻き付けて固定します。

Christmas Cats 4 Spinning Wreath with Cats card

The card with the cat wreath that spins around and around is one of my favorites. It’s a mechanism I used quite a while ago, so I’d forgotten about it, and it took me a little while to remember how it worked. There are a few key points to keep in mind, and if you follow them, I think you’ll be able to make it.

猫のリースがくるくるとスピンするカードは、一番のお気に入りです。かなり前に使った仕掛けだったので忘れてしまって、思い出すのに少し大変でした。いくつか大事なポイントがあるので、それらを守れば作ることができると思います。

Punch a hole in the center of the spot where you want to attach the wreath. Cut a circle of foam (the blue circle in the photo below) from the foam sheet that’s the same size as that hole. You can also use the circular foam pieces that come with pop-up decorations, but be sure to check that there’s no adhesive residue around the edges of the circle. If it’s sticky, you won’t be able to use it. The foam should be 3 to 4 millimeters thick.

リースを貼りたい箇所の中心に穴をあけます。フォームシートからその穴と同じ大きさの丸いフォーム（下の写真のブルーの丸）をカットします。ポップアップで使う丸いフォームでも構いませんが円の周りの端に接着の粘着がないか確認しましょう。べとべとしていると使えません。フォームは3から4ミリの厚さが必要です。

Place the foam circle into the hole, apply glue, and stick a larger paper circle on top of it. Punch a small hole in the center as a guide.

穴にフォームの丸をはめて、のりをつけてその上に大きめの紙の丸を貼ります。中心に目印の穴をあけておきます。

Turn the card over. Glue another paper circle to the back of the form to make it look like a spool.

Cut two 3/4-inch by 6-inch pull tabs and join them together. Thick paper is fine—we'll make a sturdy pull tab.

Use a hole punch to make small holes at the top and 3 inches from the top.

カードを裏にします。フォームの裏側に再び紙の丸を貼り、ボビンのような形にします。

3/4インチ×6インチのプルタブを2枚作り合わせます。厚紙でも構いません、しっかりとしたプルタブを作ります。

上と上から3インチの位置に小さな穴をパンチであけます。

Thread nylon thread—the kind used for beads and jewelry—through the top hole and tie it securely.

Point1

Wrap it around twice, pulling it tightly as you go, until grooves form in the foam.

It’s a good idea to use washi tape to hold the thread in place while you work.

Be careful not to wrap the thread around the edge where the paper and foam meet.

ビーズやジュエリーに使うナイロンスレッド（テグス）を上の穴に通してしっかりと結びます。

フォームに溝ができるくらいぐるぐると、きつく引っ張りながら2周巻きつけます。

作業中は、糸がずれないようにマステで固定しておくとよいでしょう。

紙と発泡スチロールが接する端の部分に糸を巻き付けないように注意してください。

Finally, thread the string through the hole at the 3-inch mark and tie a knot.

Tie the string tightly. If the pull tab bends when you do this, it may be too flimsy. Reinforce it with a piece of paper.

最後に3インチの位置の穴に糸を通して結びます。

スレッドをピンときつく縛ります。その時プルタブが曲がるようなら、プルタブが弱いかもしれません。さらに紙で補強しましょう。

Point2

Make a strip and attach it to the base so that the pull tab moves straight along the base.

Refer to the photo and cut the top part so that it doesn’t overlap the circle, then attach it.

プルタブがベースに沿うようにまっすぐ動くように、バンドを作ってベースに貼ります。

上の部分は丸にかからないように写真を参考にカットして貼ります。

Stick the wreath on the front, and you're done. If it spins around, you've succeeded.

表にリースを貼って完成です。くるくる回ると成功です。
